Intuitive Eating Mindful Nutrition Gold Coast

There's a video version of the below blog if you prefer to watch rather then read, so click this link here to take you to my Instagram video! Or watch at the bottom of this post.

Intuitive eating in simple terms, is bringing it back to the basics of tuning into our hunger and fullness hormones (Grehlin and Leptin) to guide meal times.

For a lot of people, it’s a very foreign concept.

Our bodies are amazing self-regulators – they tell us when we are hungry, and they tell us when we are full. And the way in which our bodies communicate like this to us, is hugely varied across us all – because we are SO individual!

Ask yourself this…

How does my body tell me it’s hungry?

How does my body tell me it’s full?

Some reach a stage where they don’t know the answer and can’t find an answer to this. This often signifies a disconnection is present.

And why might that be?

Knowing you’re hunger and fullness cues can be really difficult for a lot of people that haven’t practiced in this way, or if you’re someone who has dieted for a lot of your life. Sometimes, for so many years in a dieting cycle, a disconnection and unawareness of our hunger and fullness cues can arise - the connection might not be happening as fluidly as an Intuitive Eater.

As previously mentioned, some demographics this is commonly seen in is those who have spent a large proportion of their time dieting. This is because when we diet, we place what to eat, when to eat, and how much to eat, in the hands of the DIET, and not in the hands of ourselves. Can you see here now with this in mind, why diets fail 95% of the time too? It’s got nothing to do with us. We don’t fail diets. Diets fail us. Maybe we get hungry on our diet, but our diet tells us we can’t eat for another 2 hours, or maybe our diet tells us we can’t eat AT ALL?

So we stamp that hunger feeling down so hard and ignore it with all our might! That eventually… we only know hunger as an anxiety evoking feeling? Or we don’t even know what hunger feels like at all? A disconnection has arisen.

Intuitive Eating is all about empowering you to know when to eat, what to eat and how much to eat. It’s taking the onus away from everything we have been taught by diet culture, and getting you to trust yourself again.

It’s normal to have a lot of questions when you start thinking like this. Why? Because it’s different. It goes against the grain of Western society. It’s a rebellion!! Join in! It’s way better over here ;)

If you have any questions, feel free to send them my way to my inbox and I can answer them in future blog posts!
