Emotional Eating

Principle #7 of Intuitive Eating: Cope with your Emotions with Kindness. Food as a form of comfort is really normal and therapeutic. Things get hard when it’s our only way of coping. Emotional eating is a term I hear really often but a common mix up is people thinking they are emotionally eating when really it’s often backlash eating from deprivation and restriction (I.e. not getting enough to eat in general & backlash effects of psychological restriction around certain foods). These are 2 very different things. Principle 7 explores building and fostering individual coping strategies without using food, while absolutely recognising and experiencing that food can provide us comfort.
