Cutting carbs

Your brain, red blood cells, body... are obligatory users of glucose aka

carbohydrates aka sugar.

-

Glucose is our bodies most preferred & primal fuel/energy source. Glucose is also our brains only fuel source.

-

"Although the body can be forced to use ketone bodies (which are produced in cases of starvation read as extreme dieting) it still prefers to use glucose. One way we know this is because an enzyme has to be induced to utilize ketones,

it's not the body's default to use them." - @the_sassy_ginger_dietitian

-

Fastest way to crave carbs/sugars? Actively restrict them. Your body & brain need carbs. Really. Need. Them. You simply can't outsmart your biology.

-

You may find yourself foraging in a panicked state for carbohydrates/sugars in the afternoon if you haven't adequately fed your body/brain enough consistently throughout the day. This is a regulatory mechanism. It?s biological. Your BGL's have dropped low, and they need to come back up to keep you well/safe. Fastest way for that to happen? Carbs. Fast acting ones. Your body is just doing it's thing to protect you. Seek comfort in that. But what might help in the long term is giving your body/brain enough energy (through food - including carbohydrates regularly) consistently through the day. Reach out if you need support.

-

Cutting out carbs has nothing to do with health & everything to do with diet culture. Please don't do it. Or do... It's your body, your choices. But expect for some things to ramp up - probably won't be fun. Could definitely be pretty unhelpful. Even harmful.

-

The only evidence that supports the ketogenic diet is for its use within epileptic children, & this needs to be carefully considered.
